Looking for a place to watch the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in New York City? Join FindHerFootball at Katch in Astoria, Queens on Sunday morning starting at 5:30am ET.
In New York City, soccer is a way of life. FindYourFootball was founded in 2018 with a mission to help serve a community hungry for soccer opportunities. Since then, the organization has provided soccer clinics, pick-ups, and access to local soccer leagues around the city. FindHerFootball was later founded to bring visibility to players and teams by providing accessible media coverage of the women’s game.
According to FindHerFootball CEO & Founder Crystal Cuevas, holding events aimed at growing a community around women’s soccer in the city is a crucial part of the organization’s goal of making it easier to be a women’s soccer fan.
“FindYour serves as a community manager and FindHer as the media engine to drive visibility and equity to women’s soccer, in hopes of bridging the gap between pros and our NY inner city soccer communities,” Cuevas told The Local W. “Every one of our watch party partners are committed to growing the women’s game through different initiatives or programs that I personally support through my platforms, FindYourFootball and FindHerFootball.”
FindHerFootball didn’t stop at watch parties to celebrate the World Cup. The organization along with Women In Soccer created a first of its kind World Cup jersey that directly benefits youth and adult programs as well as career development on and off the field.
“We are focused on industry development, and have partnered with Women In Soccer to help us drive awareness behind our sports media industry and co-host pickups across National Women’s Soccer League cities to provide opportunities for industry professionals to connect and learn in their ‘Connect Local, Think Global‘ initiative,” Cuevas said. “This jersey has the special World Cup x women’s soccer year signatured on the back with all 32 countries represented on the front and back.”
The FindHerFootball community partners are a crucial aspect of supporting the work of this grassroots organization. Donna-Kay Henry, former Jamaican international and professional player, is a co-founder of FindYourFootball and founding advisor of FindHerFootball.
Through her company Dkay Henry Soccer Training, Henry works with and trains hundreds of players at all levels in the New York City area. “She is an inspiration in the community, a coach, and an advisor for player development,” said Cuevas.
Here’s bit of advice if you plan to watch Spain take on England in the World Cup final with the incredible community behind FindHerFootball at Katch: get there early! You may get the chance to have Street FC pay for your first drink, whether that’s an espresso or an espresso martini.
“We’re thankful that they are helping fuel the good morning vibes,” Cuevas said. “We’re also super thankful for [Katch Astoria] for helping us get the word out and being open!”
