Fever Preview

Since May 31st, the Fever, who were an even 5-5 ATS, have failed to cover in four straight games. Indiana’s speed, who plays at the fastest pace in the league (84.1 possessions per game) according to HerHoopStats.com, led to eight of their first 10 contests going over the betting total, but we’ve seen four straight results under the total betting line from the Fever.

This is mostly due to shooting 36 percent from the floor over the past four games. Combine that poor percentage with the worst scoring defense in the league, and it’s tremendously hard to cover a spread. The Fever average 88.1 opponent PPG and have only held opponents to fewer than 84 twice in 14 appearances this season.

To make matters worse for the Fever, the team experienced a flight delay, a missed connection, and a four-hour bus ride back to Indianapolis. All these travel mishaps combined to turn yesterday into a 12-hour commute home, following Wednesday’s game in Connecticut.

Liberty Preview

On the other hand, the Liberty have started the month of June scorching hot, even with all of their injury problems. New York has covered the spread in three of their last four contests, winning three of the games outright. This is in large part due to the phenomenal outputs of third-year guard Sabrina Ionescu. She is averaging 26.0/5.5/5.0 over the last four on shooting splits of 57.4%/46.9%/100%. Ionescu made history last game against the Lynx in three quarters as the only player in WNBA history to have 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists shooting at least 90 percent from the floor. She was hitting from everywhere, including half court.

Bringing in Reinforcements

While the Liberty will still be without Betnijah Laney, DiDi Richards, and Jocelyn Willoughby, the team added a familiar face this week following the trade of AD to Atlanta.
French guard Marine Johannès has returned to the Liberty for the first time since 2019 and is available to play Friday night. Here are some of her highlights from the 2022 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers for those unfamiliar with her game:

The Pick:

Liberty -3.5 -110

I think Liberty get it done on the road and continue their hot streak against a struggling Indiana Fever. For all of my WNBA picks all season, be sure to follow @spread_thefloor on twitter.
